2023: Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri organizes a Town Hall meeting for Political Office seekers

The office of Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas JDPC, a commission that coordinates the Department of Church, government and society has announced its plan to organize a town Hall meeting for political office seekers in Imo state ahead of the forthcoming general election.
A statement by the Director of the commission, Rev. Fr.Dr. Gerald Njoku said the meeting was designed to engage and interact with all the candidates seeking to represent the people of Imo state in the Senate, House of Reps and state house of Assembly.
According to him, JDPC commission understands the significance of this year’s general elections and has partnered INEC and non-governmental Organizations (NGO’s), to register more than 77,000 voters in Imo state.
Father Gerald Njoku who revealed that JDPC has the geographical spread and reach to meet the voters, expressed the hope that the initiative would revitalize the democratic and patriotic spirit of Imo people by making the voting process and manifestoes of candidates clear to the people.
He explained that the Town Hall meeting tagged ‘Enthronment of Good governance in Imo state would be accessed online and offline; disclosing that a peace accord would be signed by the candidates at the end of the meeting.
The JDPC Director hinted that the commission is embarking on the Civic engagement programme in collaboration with the entire Owerri Archdiocesan Presbyterium, the Laity council, Catholic social Forum, statutory Organizations and credible leading Media outfits in Imo state and beyond.
The dates are Sunday 29th January 2023 for State House of Assembly Candidates while Sunday 5th February, 2023 is for Senate and House of Representatives candidates.
The venue is Jubilee Hall, Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri at 2PM.
