IPOB Sponsorship: Eze Nwokocha may be innocent-Mbaise people
The people of Mbaise in Imo state have asked security agencies to be transparent in their investigation of an allegation by an acclaimed IPOB member, Chinwendu Nwagwu AKA Onye Army that Eze Leo Nwokocha sponsors their activities.
The request came from some indigenes of Mbaise during an interview conducted randomly by our correspondent, regarding the allegation against Eze Leo Nwokocha who is the chairman of Mbaise council of Traditional Rulers.
One of the people who only gave his name as Ifeanyi, from Ibeku Aboh Mbaise said though Eze Nwokocha might not be a saint, the manner in which the acclaimed IPOB member accused the traditional ruler is questionable.
“In the Viral Video, he mentioned that Eze Nwokocha sponsored their activities with the paltry sum of #120,000; meaning that IPOB and their activities are very cheap, ” Ifeanyi wondered.
He also wondered how Eze Nwokocha could engage engage his own subject to unleash mayhem in the society knowing fully well the gravity of the offense.
Also contributing, another source from Nguru Aboh Mbaise, One Onyemauche testified that Eze Nwokocha had been against the involvement of the youth in violence and should not sponsor violence.
“His problem with some young men is that he doesn’t tolerate violence,” Onyemauche explained.
Others who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity also demanded that security Agencies should not take hook, line and sinker the confession by the IPOB member but to carry out thorough investigation to ascertain the truth.
They vowed to resist any attempt to frame their revered traditional ruler for any political reason.
It can be recalled that an acclaimed IPOB member Chinwendu Nwagwu AKA Onye Army from Umunneato Nguru Autonomous community was arrested by the Army on Friday 23rd December 2022 in his hometown when he returned home to bury his father.
He was reportedly a lance Corporal who left the Army in 2013 without handing over his kits but was using them to terrorize the society.
In his confession, he mentioned Eze Leo Nwokocha as one of their sponsors who gave them one hundred and twenty thousand (#120,000) through one Mr. Ihedioha whom he described as their coordinator in Mbaise.
Meanwhile, Eze Leo Nwokocha has expressed surprise over the allegation levelled against him.
He admitted that the suspect is his subject but explained that he has not seen him before let alone having anything to do with him.
He gave the explanation on Wednesday in a telephone interview with our correspondent before his phone lines went off.
