National Population commission intensifies preparations for next year’s Census


The National Population commission NPC, has reiterated its commitment towards conducting a credible National Population and Housing Census in Nigeria next year.
The state Director of the Commission in Imo state, Barrister Justice Ike stated this in Owerri when he led members of the commission and their collaborators, the National Orientation Agency, NOA on a Road Show in Owerri, the Imo state capital.
He said the programme was part of the activities lined up by them; preparatory to the Census to be conducted on April next year.
The state Director represented the Hon. Federal commissioner Prof. Uba Nnabue at the programme.
According to him, the commission has consulted with stakeholders, conducted Trial Census, flagged off online recruitment for Adhoc staff among other preparations for effective Census conduct next year.
Barrister Justice Ike who revealed that the commission has keyed into International Minimum standard for the conduct of the Census, explained that Census helps immensely in National planning, for equitable provision of social amenities to the people by the government.

He however called on the residents of Imo state to co-operate with the enumerators by providing them with useful information and ensuring their safety.
Speaking during an interview, the state Director National Orientation Agency, Mrs Maureen pledged their support towards enlightening the residents on the importance of the proposed National Population and Housing Census next year.
